In 2020, South Carolina Governor signed House Bill 3755 into law. The bill amended sections of the insurance code regarding automobile insurance coverage, but also included a provision extending the statutory one-year redemption period for 2019 tax sales by another year: Bluffton MLK Observance Committee President, Bridgette Frazier worked along side Rep. Bill Herberkersman, Rep. Weston Newton and Senator Tom Davis to create this policy,  that would ensure Gullah natives had ample time to redeem their properties after the tumultuous financial strain endured by some during the pandemic. Frazier also worked with Beaufort County Treasurer Maria Wells to aid impacted families needing to obtain accurate details on payments and penalties.
